How many gallons of paint does it take to paint a car?

Typically less than one . If you want a custom paint job in lacquer , which few actually do anymore , it could take more as in that venue you spray several coats and then buff the whole car and then spray several more coats and buff the car again . Some actually will put as many as 40 coats of lacquer on a car as this gives the paint job a crystalline appearance . Again , lacquer is rarely used anymore . It is a highly dangerous painting application .How many gallons of paint does it take to paint a car?
It really depends ont he car, the paint and the finish you're after. 5 to 6 quarts of paint will usually cover for a repaint job using enamel. There is also the reducer and clear coat. For higher luster finishes or as the other answerer said lacquer, you're looking at some serious gallons of paint. Small cars of course require a lot less, but some have fairly complex shapes requiring more paint. How many gallons of paint does it take to paint a car?
depends on the size, the color of paint, the color of primer. not more than a gallon usually
It only takes 1 half of a gallon to paint 3 coats on a small car.
You usually use spray paint in cans, not by the gallon.
Call a paint/body shop and ask them.
