powder coating is a great method, if you have the money, but it is very spendy. if you wish to do it yourself you can use any paint that specifies that it is for use on metal. the important thing to know when you are painting wheels is that you must have the wheels completely clean and paint free before you start. i recomend using a wire wheel to get the dirt and old paint off. some wire wheels will leave to smooth a finish to get the paint to stick, so you'll probably want to scuff the surface with around an 80 grit piece of sandpaper. then use rubbing alcohol to clean remaining dust and debris off the wheels. it's always a good idea to use a decent primer as a base before actually applying the paint. be sure that when you apply the paint and primer you don't paint the bead seating area of the wheels, as that may cause a headache later on with keeping air in the tires. How to paint steel rims?
