This is an easy task! Make sure the surface is clean and free of debris. You can use any type of surface cleaner, but I recommend something with a de-greaser in it. Just be sure to rinse the surface. Depending on what color you chose, you may need to prime the surface prior to painting. Choice of paint also varies, but I would go with an oil base to ensure durability.

Speak to a paint specialist at you local hardware store.Tips on how to paint my fireplace?
It depends on whether or not you are painting the inside or out. If you paint the out side and not the mantel use a latex because it is a thermal plastic meaning that it expands and contracts with the heat and the cold.

If you are painting the inside and you plan on using the fireplace then you need to go with a high heat paint and if you plan on using a neutral color then you need to call a paint rep and have him tell you which paint to use
